Chapter 64
Paul and Eva walked down the street and started a conversation. In order not to seem suspicious, they slowed the volume of their conversation only slightly and seemed like a couple on the way home. As they turned into the street, they felt Mehmet's view in the back and were themselves trying to capture all the details. The road was about 500 yards long, lined on both sides by two and three storey houses.
At the roadside stood a few cars, many of them probably not moved for weeks, but all polished to a shine. The houses themselves were a mix of new buildings and buildings that stood here since at least 30 years. Were they well cared for, so many design decisions had simply outdated. Some roof or balcony was apparently saved so from the 60s or 70s in the modern world.
The relevant building stood approximately in the middle of the road, about six feet in front a wide garden and a garage entrance. The garden was in a narrow strip around the house and led to a larger garden at the Back of the building. The garden was separated by a shoulder-high fence from the neighboring property. In the garden itself, some shrubs and fruit trees, probably that was because of the season for Paul not clearly identify.
On the other side of the road Paul saw a van with darkened rear windows. With a quick glance at the indicator Paul noted that the car seemed out of place with his Berlin indicator in the neighborhood a bit. In order not to attract attention, slowed his pace noticeably not Paul, and turned his gaze back to the front, pointing to Eva but a moment to be quiet.
With an effort Paul listened into the night, but could perceive no suspicious noises. He played Eva tickled at the hip, which he poked it on the shoulder and moved on with her jokingly. When they arrived at the end of the road, they turned right to go back on a parallel road to the team. On the way back, they gave themselves less conspicuous. Between two houses could Paul find the van.
He quickly went down in a crouch and Eve meant it to do the same. Thus protected from any eyes, Paul observed the van. The lay like previously silent and motionless. Paul wondered how he could get closer to the car without attracting attention. In the house where he stood, was a light, shutters prevented, however, that the residents could see into the garden.
In the house behind a television flickered. The risk of being discovered by local residents was relatively low and so Paul decided to approach the van through the gardens. Some tight but leafless bushes, would provide enough coverage. In addition, Paul took the storm in the face mask, went back a few feet, and quietly jumped over the fence. On the other hand, he went back down and approached the van as unobtrusive as possible.
He lay still and quiet as before, and were it not for the tinted windows, Paul would have dismissed its existence as a natural . Paul hoped that any occupant did not use thermal imaging cameras, or motion sensors utilized to secure the area. Arriving at the end of the garden, he knelt on the floor and stayed there and held his breath. From the house rang the TV. Shots were fired and a machine gun fired at an unknown attacker.
Wenn das heute in die Hose ging, würden hier noch richtige Schüsse fallen, dachte sich Paul und verharrte weiter. Nichts. Kein Geräusch. Doch. Da. Ein Knarzen. Einbildung? Nein, schon wieder. Etwas in dem Lieferwagen musste sich bewegt haben. Kaum merklich, aber doch hörbar dämpften die Stoßdämpfer des Wagens eine Bewegung im Inneren ab. Also doch. Auf dem gleichen Weg, wie er hingekommen war, schlich sich Paul zurück und sprang zurück auf die Straße.
Den restlichen Weg legten sie geduckt zurück und gingen hinter dem Gestrüpp in Deckung. Dort fanden sie nach ein paar Metern Mehmet.
"And?"
"The van."
"Hmm thought I myself." Have you seen anything? "
" No, but I snuck me from the other side and I am 100 percent sure that the car has geknarzt. "
" Geknarzt "
" Well, you know, the shock absorbers have aufgeächzt short. Someone must have moved in there. Is certainly not empty. "
" Ok. Anything else? "
" Yes, the garden outside the house is reached from the neighboring property. We could therefore proceed from the other, unguarded side. "
" Sounds good. Eve. What do you mean? "
" If someone is sitting in the van, then we must be prepared for a firefight. Either way. I would support the high increase in the van and then to storm the house. "
